Peace Boat was founded in 1983 in Japan. The NGO has Special Consultative Status and cooperates with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. The NGO provides around-the-world cruises on a social business model. They have realized about 90 voyages. They aim to bring social change, realize green-tech exhibitions and serve as a floating sustainability laboratory. Through using solar-panels they can cut in CO2 emissions by 40%.
During the cruise, there are a number of activities held on the board for the young people to take part in and learn more. When they arrive at different countries, they will realize a number of training sessions for the local youth thus serving the youth of the world.
They aim to promote peace, sustainable development, human rights and respect for the environment through educational programs. The boat provides a neutral space and engages the participants in dialogue and mutual cooperation at sea, and in the ports where they visit.
Peace Boat provides Youth for the SDGs scholarships that cover both the program and travel expenses.
